Chad Kagen is the Founder and Chief Product & Innovation Officer at Powderhouse, where he directs the long-term evolution of Powderhouse and its evaluation architecture.
He conceived, architected, and led the development of Powderhouse’s evaluation framework, including Powder 9™, GRIT™, Elevation Check™, Conditions™, and PowderMatch™, as well as the Massif™ intelligence architecture that supports them. Together, these systems form an integrated evaluation architecture that transforms founder materials, market intelligence, and operational signals into disciplined institutional judgment.
Chad served as Chief Executive Officer of Powderhouse for seven years, from its founding in 2018 through 2025, guiding Powderhouse through its formative years before assuming his current role. Today, he oversees product strategy, research, and the continual evolution of Powderhouse’s evaluation architecture, ensuring every advancement strengthens the consistency, transparency, and rigor of venture evaluation at institutional scale.
His philosophy is grounded in a simple conviction: enduring institutions are built on systems rather than opinions. Individual decisions will always require judgment, but the quality of an institution is determined by the discipline, consistency, and transparency of the framework that informs them.
That philosophy shapes every layer of Powderhouse—from how ventures are evaluated and opportunities are compared to how capital is aligned and investment decisions are ultimately made. The objective is not simply to improve venture investing, but to establish the institutional standard for evaluating innovation.
